Moral a. Concerned with goodness or badness of character or disposition, or with the distinction between right and wrong; dealing with regulation of conduct; concerned with rules for morality; virtuous in general conduct. OK, those are the Concise Oxford Dictionary definitions, but what does "ethics" and "moral" really mean in practice? Maybe one way of examining some action you may want to take is to ask yourself how you would feel if someone else took this action on you? In other words, swap situations and ask yourself how you would feel. If you would feel aggrieved in some way, then think again about the action you would take. Sometimes it is not possible to please, for example, if someone robs you. In this case there is, however, a fair action that could be taken. The Earth appears to be a moral maze that no single person, or even group of people, are able to sort out. Hence the multitude of problems that we all have on this Earth, with war, greed, lies, etc, spoiling things for the majority of us that want peace and goodwill. Or do we? Sometimes I get very angry myself over the way our politicians act, or when people treat me in a way I don't expect. Why do I get angry? Surely, I should be able expect the unexpected! Surely I should be able to expect the expected from politicians! Have I got a right to be cynical, especially when I am so far from perfect myself? So I can understand a bit about why I get angry. |
